Rebecca Anthony m. Isaac "Smith" Lavely - muscular dsytrophy

I am a descendent of the above listed couple. Rebecca was the first in our line I have traced so far who had Muscular Dystrophy. We now have seven generations of people in which the disease has shown up and been diagnosed. Undoubtedly there are more people in these lines who have been affected, so I am posting this hoping simply to possibly enhance medical knowledge and understanding of this disease by putting together a more complete listing of all who had it, sex, age at onset, age at diagnosis, severity, age at death. Rebecca and Isaac had 5 sons and 5 daughters together. My family descends from their daughter JULIA ELLEN LAVELY ERWIN. Since the disease has exhibited itself at least three times per generation in this smallish sample, I am expecting to find another ten to thirty people or more in the various families in this genealogy. I still don't know who Rebecca's parents were only her birth, marriage and death data, the birth data that she was born in ARMSTRONG County, PA on 6/7/1826.

Re: Anckonie/Ankony??

Yes, there are plenty of Anthonys--and name spellings often were changed over the centuries, and in different documents. Spellings weren't standardized until the late 1800s/1900s. (We've found nearly 150 versions of one of my family's branch names--Daugherty, Doety, Doughty, and so forth--and all were provably related.

Unless you have good evidence that someone name Anthony now was formerly named Anckonie(etc), I'd be leery of confusing the two, however.

The Anckonie family I referred to in a previous post appears in Michigan when the grandfather of the naval officer I mentioned--Alex Anckonie III--emigrated from Machgara, in the Bekaa Valley of Lebanon, which isn't too far from Syria. (At the time, however, there was no separate Lebanon--the FRench managed to manipulate that into being for their own purposes.)

Here's a link about the town--http://www.bing.com/search?q=machgara&form=APMCS1

The father and immigrant grandfather of Alex Anckonie III were also named Alex Anckonie--Alex I and Alex II. A search of Ancestry.com (esp. the paid or library version) should turn up some entries on each. Though one of the generations lived briefly in (Michigan City??), Indiana, for the most part they lived in Dearborn and Detroit, Michigan.

The family was traditionally Alawite--that is, belonging to a branch of the Shi'ite Muslim community (to which the current Assad family that rules Syria also belongs). Alex I may or may not have been particularly observant when he came here. His son, Alex II, however, certainly didn't pressure his son, the future naval captain, to adhere to Islam--though he seems to have taught him the basics. Alex III came to a serious commitment to Islam in his 20s, it seems.

He made the Hajj (pilgrimage to Mecca) 3 or 4 four times...was a friend and financial advisor to one of the Saudi kings (he taught economics at George-town and George Washington Univ after leaving the Navy); and consulted widely around the world. He held two PhDs from the University of Michigan, earned very young, and served on several Navy submarines, in addition to becvoming the longest-serving commander of the USS Nautilus (which made the first voyage under the North Pole ice). He died in 2003.

Though Alex's father was Muslim, his mother was a Canadian of Presbyterian background. He has three living sisters, but no brothers.

Hope this is of some help,

Brian
_________________________________________________________________________
I was married to a possible descendent of S. B. Anthony. This would be Joyce Becker-Gronner. Who lives in Galena, Illinois. Her Mother was reported to be a cousin or a niece several times removed. Her Name was Ruth Anthony-Becker. I don't know any more then this. Very interested in finding out since I was once married to her and we have a son and two grandsons.

Mary,
I hope you're still getting posts in response to your 2008 post about the origin of the surname "Anckonie." It is either Lebanese or Syrian--I forget which at the moment. Alex Anckonie was a distinguished US naval officer who pioneered nuclear submarines under Admiral Hyman Rickover. There is info on him at the Arab-American Museum, in Dearborn, Michigan; they can probably give you some info by phone.

The two different spellings are of no consequence. There was no standard way to convert a foreign name into the English alphabet, and still isn't, really.

You didn't find any hits when you googled "Anckonie"? Curious, unless no material on Alex had yet been put on the Web...

Brian

Hello,
I am the volunteer genealogist for the Susan B. Anthony House and Museum in Rochester, NY. I'm afraid that I only collect info on the descendants of Susan's brothers and sisters. I do answer questions for the House if someone contacts them to see how they are related to SBA. Sometimes I can make the connection and sometimes not. I do not collect info on her parents' brothers/sisters, Aunts/Uncles etc. but do have some resources that can help me if I need to do research. I would be glad to know how you are related to SBA. Sincerely, Phyllis Stehm

Anyone have a Tony ANTHONY b.abt.1926? who was in Ft.Lauderdale, Florida in 1956 he worked in a paid parking lot downtown where people would pay to park their cars.
Also later worked in construction around 1960 in Palm Beach or West Palm Beach, Florida.
My Mother was born in 1936 and she said he was about 10 years older than her. This man keept my Mothers High School ring and wouldn't give it back to her.
My Mother didn't see him very long. Never met his friends or family and didn't know much about him.
Looking back with stories I was told I believe he was married and had a boy and girl by 1959/1960. The daughter may have been about 12 years old in 1959.60.
If you think you connect to this man and have a picture of him when he was in the late 1950 early 60's my Mother would know then if it's the same man. Don't know if he is still alive, but he would know my Mothers name by her maiden name it's Thelma Rogers.
I am researching the following line:

John ca 1810-1813, likely Schaghticoke

Andrew ca 1775, lived in Schaghticoke at marriage

John,b.poss ca 1757 in Watervliet in 1790

Samuel b. poss ca 1735, in Rumbout, Dutchess at marriage and on tax lists to 1774, Brunswick area of Albany, Schaghticoke and Watervliet to 1815.

All the above seem to have mostly married women of Dutch or German extraction. (dau.of John married Terpening), Garrett,Yates, Goewey, Kniffen.

My presumption is that Samuel is the senior and John and Andrew are possibly his sons (no records found yet) or Andrew may be of John...

I have found a record of a "Samuel Anthony" in the muster roll of Capt Issac Corsa's company in Westchester in 1755. Israel Sniffen came from Rye/White Plains in Westchester and it is possible that Samuel's family also lived in that area unless he immigrated as a young man alone.

I have not been able to connect him to the family trees listed for the Rhode Island group, the MA group, CT or Schoharie/Green Cty NY people. Nor does he seem to connect to Allard Anthony of the Dutch NYers so far.

Does anyone have any ideas for resources to research in Westchester COunty early 1700's? Or a tree that these might fit into? It's very frustrating to search for surnames that double as given names!

I too am researching Darius R. Anthony (1805-1871) in New York, and his ancestry. I know that Darius married Huldah Scofield in 1827 as recorded in an old family bible. Much is known abt the Scofields but the Anthony trail grows cold. I am desperately seeking a documented link to Darius's parents, and grandparents. Were you able to make those connections? Also, where did you find the names of Job's children?

Paul E. Anthony - Claridon, Ohio

CLARIDON: Paul E. Anthony, age 94, of Claridon, Ohio died Thursday evening, November 1, 2012, on the first day of their wintering in Florida following a brief illness.

On December 5, 1917, Paul was born at home in Meeker, Ohio, (MARION COUNTY) one of four children of the late Audrey and Merle (Coles) Anthony.

In 1933, his family moved to a farm in Claridon, where he would graduate from Claridon High School in the Class of 1936. Later, he earned a degree from the Marion Business College.

A few years after graduating, while he was working at J. C.Penney's, Paul was introduced to a young lady, Helen Peterson, by a mutual friend, and the rest was history. Soon thereafter, Paul and Helen were married on May 29, 1942, and have cherished their 70 wonderful years of marriage together.

Dedicating his life to the family farm, Paul farmed both livestock and grain until the day he died. He was proud to carry on their family tradition of farming, and was blessed to have his son and granddaughter follow in his footsteps.

A man of faith, Paul was a 60 plus year member of the Marion Salem United Methodist Church.
He also was a former member of the Masonic Lodge of Mount Gilead, Ohio.

Paul served as a Claridon Township Trustee for 16 years.

Snowbirds, Paul and Helen have been enjoying their winters in Okeechobee, Florida, since 1964, where they attended the First United Methodist Church.

To say Paul was an avid card player would be quite the understatement, as he and Helen played cards nearly everyday with their friends and family, such as their neighbors, Donna Ruth and Wilbur Ault.

With a love for the outdoors, Paul would go hunting as often as he could with anyone he could get to go with him, hunting for most anything, but most often going coon hunting. He also enjoyed fishing and mushroom hunting.

He will be missed by his wife, Helen Anthony of Claridon; two children Sondra (Tom) Nicodemus of Plainfield, Indiana, and Eric (Pat) Anthony of Edison, OH; four grandchildren Paul (Kay) Nicodemus, Sheri Nicodemus, Christopher (Janet) Anthony, and April Anthony Appleman; six great-grandchildren Lyston, Kolby, Brittany, Brandon, Mary Elizabeth, and Samantha; and one great-great-grandson, Hunter; a brother-in-law, Howard McClenathan of Caledonia; and several nieces and nephews.

Including his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Mary Jo Anthony Van Meter; and three siblings Maurice (Mary Ellen) Anthony, Louise (Corky) Brookens, and Pauline McClenathan.

Paul's family will greet friends from 4 - 7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 7, 2012, at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead.
Services honoring his life will be held on Thursday at 11:00 a.m.; friends may gather at the church from 10a.m. until the time of service at the Marion Salem United Methodist Church, 1640 Salem Rd., Caledonia, Ohio.

Burial will follow in Claridon Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in care of the Marion Salem United Methodist Church.

Snyder Funeral Homes of Mount Gilead is honored to have been chosen to serve Paul's family and your private condolences may be expressed to them by visiting www.snyderfuneralhomes.com.

I am researching my family line of the Anthony's. They are Black/Choctaw Indian from the Mississippi and Alabama area. In the mid to late 1800s they did seem to migrate from one region to another. My records start in the mid 1800s with Inam and Minnie Anthony. They were my grandfather's parants.
If you have any connection to this line of Anthonys, I would love to here from you.

Sincerely Linda

I know Alice had not been married to Robert when Wanda was born. We are not sure who Wanda's father was. I don't know much more than that. If there is anything more I might be able to help with I can try to help.
